JACKSON COUNTY, situated at the southeast corner of Mississippi, on the gulf of Mexico, and traversed by Pascagoula river. Area, 1,175 square miles. Face of the county varied; soil, sterile. Seat of justice, Jackson C. H. Pop. in 1840, 1,965; in 1850, 3,196. (Fanning's, 1853)
